Whether you are feeling homesick, are looking for ways to make friends or are feeling anxious about university, we have someone to help you.
If you are feeling lonely or anxious, it may help to talk to someone. Whether you prefer to talk to another student, a trained counsellor or a chaplain, the University has someone for you to get in touch with.
Need someone to talk to? We provide a confidential listening and information service run for students by students from 6pm–8am every night of term.
Sometimes another student is best able to identify with your situation. The Student Mentor Scheme provides advice and guidance to all students living in university accommodation. The scheme can help with a variety of issues including shared living and accommodation.
The Counselling and Guidance service gives you professional and confidential support to help you manage your emotional wellbeing. Make an appointment to talk to someone.
Drop in to chat with a Chaplain, to meet with friends from your own religious tradition or from other faiths, or just for a cup of tea. Chaplains give you pastoral support and a listening ear for your problems.
University is a great place to meet new people - but it may seem difficult at first. Get involved in University activities and you might end up making some friends for life.
With more than 180 student groups, there really is something for everyone. With societies such as G:TV (Guild Television), Wayfarers (Walking), and Circus, there are lots of opportunities to get involved.
Sport plays a major role in life at Birmingham - it is consistently one of the top universities in Britain for competitive sport and a centre of excellence for many disciplines. Joining a team is a great way to meet new people, and great for your health too!
Wellbeing is an online tool designed to help you take charge of your emotional and physical health. Find out your wellbeing score, set and monitor your own targets, and see a happier you!
You may be anxious because of practical concerns with your course, living arrangements or finances. The ARC at the Guild of Students offers impartial advice on these and many other student concerns.
