These costs can be met by a number of means depending on your circumstances. Please refer to the links below in order to learn more about how to fund your studies at the University of Birmingham.
Student loans and maintenance grants
The government provides financial support to help undergraduate students with their tuition fees and maintenance costs. This support may be in the form of loans or non-repayable grants.
Birmingham Grant and Scholarship
These additional awards are offered by the University of Birmingham in order to support students from low-income backgrounds and reward academic excellence.
Funding for parents and disabled students
The additional costs of studying at university whilst supporting dependants or managing a disability are recognised by a number of sources of support.
NHS funding
If you are studying on a degree course for a health care profession you will be eligible for support from the NHS. This support may be in the form of a tuition fee grant and/or a means-tested or non means-tested bursary.
Alternative grants and bursaries
Besides the statutory support provided by the government, there are also a number of bursaries and scholarships available to undergraduates depending on their choice of course, income background and academic performance.
Access to Learning Fund (ALF)
The Access to Learning Fund is available to home undergraduate students who have taken up all statutory support available to them but are experiencing financial hardship.
International undergraduate students
At the University of Birmingham there are a range of scholarships available to international undergraduates, both centrally and possibly through schools and departments.
For additional advice on any of the support mentioned above, please do not hesitate to contact the Student Funding Office.
