What is >>Progress>>?

>>Progress>> is a recently developed online environment built to help you manage your study and develop your skills.  This system can help you to log the achievements you have made and the skills you have developed.  It will also allow you to ascertain what level you are currently working at and identify areas in which you can improve.  It is felt that this system can be most beneficial to students who wish to consolidate and build on their personal and academic development whilst at the University, and one of the aims of the Eliahou Dangoor Scholarships is to further encourage this kind of activity.  For further information, please visit www.progress.bham.ac.uk or contact Joan Cartledge on j.m.cartledge@bham.ac.uk.

The conditions of the scholarship require commitment to an ambassadorial role. What does this mean?

All successful Eliahou Dangoor scholars will be expected to act as ambassadors of the University of Birmingham.  Activities undertaken in an ambassadorial capacity can vary, and range from giving presentations in schools to promote your subject area, taking part in University or departmental ‘open days’ or student workshops through to participating in University podcasts or promotional videos.  Section 5 of the application form will ask you to indicate your preference for these activities and, if you are successful in securing a scholarship, you will be contacted following your official notification with further details.

What is a STEM subject?

STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and mathematics subjects.  These are seen to be strategically important subject areas that have experienced a drop in uptake in recent years and are currently in danger of being underrepresented in higher education.  Schemes like the Eliahou Dangoor Scholarships are seeking to stimulate recruitment and retention in these key subject areas.
