Parents and carers

We recognise that, whilst coming away to University is a very exciting time for students, it can nevertheless be quite stressful for parents and carers, so we hope that this information will be helpful and will answer some of your questions.

Counselling and Guidance offers a range of support to students registered at the University, details of which can be found at the Counselling and Guidance website.

In addition to the support available to students, we also offer telephone consultation to parents and carers of students.

The staff can offer help with any questions or concerns you have about student’s wellbeing.  These may be related to the support needs of the students, or where the required support can be obtained.

Whilst the staff are able to help with many of your questions and concerns, confidentiality is an essential aspect of our work, and will limit any information we can share with you.  Confidentiality is a crucial part of the counselling relationship and it prevents counselling staff from discussing students without written permission from the student, and staff will be unable to confirm in any way if your student has been registered with the service.  Furthermore, staff are unable to initiate contact with a student.

Please contact us if you have any questions about our service and how we can be accessed or if you have any concerns about your son or daughter and wish to discuss it with someone. An Adviser will be available to talk to you between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday, our contact number is 0121 414 5130.
