Making an appointment

Online registration closed until 3 June 2012

From 31 March until 3 June 2012 online registration for counselling, mental health and wellbeing services at 3 Elms Road is closed.  This is to enable us to more effectively support students who need to be seen relatively quickly in the lead-up to exams and the end of the academic year.

Seeing someone if you are not registered

If you are not registered, you still have options for talking to someone:

  • Same-day appointments: if you need to talk to someone about issues or difficulties affecting your academic work, we are offering a fixed number of same-day appointments each week from 31 March until 3 June 2012. These appointments last up to 50 minutes.  At the end of these appointments we can, if necessary, direct you to sources of further support, including the counselling, mental health and wellbeing services here. In order to see a member of staff for one of these appointments, please call in to reception at 3 Elms Road as early in the day as possible and ask to see someone.
  • Exams drop-in: between 30 April and 1 June 2012 we are also offering a ‘drop-in’ service each day from 12.30-1.30pm if you need to talk to someone about problems or anxieties relating to exams. You do not need to book  to use this service: simply come to 3 Elms Road and ask to see someone about exam problems or worries.

Alternatives to one-to-one appointments

  • Workshops: we are running a comprehensive programme of workshops designed to support you during the exam period.  These include weekly relaxation groups, ‘Coping with Anxiety’ workshops, ‘Sleep better’ workshops and ‘Task management’ workshops.
  • Manage your wellbeing online: our online Wellbeing programme can help you set fitness goals, find strategies to cope with anxiety or depression and cope with many other issues which you may be struggling with.  It not only helps you to set goals, but then assists you in moving towards them.

Extenuating circumstances

We can only issue evidence in support of extenuating circumstances when we have had chance to work with you for 2-3 sessions (ie if you registered with us before 30 March).  We can issue a ‘Certificate of Attendance’ for your department, if required, once we have met with you but this carries little weight for extenuating circumstances purposes.
