Leadership and Teamwork Module

This module will introduce students to the key concepts of Leadership and Teamwork, through examination of theories and practical engagement with real life scenarios.

What you will cover on the course:

  • Classic team roles
  • Team formation
  • Models and challenges of leadership
  • Understanding stakeholders
  • Characteristics and attributes of leaders
  • Concept of leading beyond authority.

Workshop sessions will present and engage students in the theories of leadership, this will be followed by facilitated online discussion  which will provide the fora for learning and discussing the theoretical aspects of the course. The workshop sessions will be followed by the formation of team, which will in turn give student an opportunity to discuss and propose a solution to a leadership problem, using both the learning from the workshops supported by their own knowledge and learning gained from additional research/study. The solutions will be presented, critiqued and defended in the final workshop session.

Individuals will reflect on the experience of working in the team through use of a reflective journal, relating their reflective learning experience to theories of leadership and teamwork. Throughout the workshops, short group and individual activities will seek to encourage students’ creative thinking on the subject and will demonstrate some of the key learning points. Students will be introduced to a number of survey tools which will be used to help them appreciate their own team and leadership strengths.
