International Communication and Cross-Cultural Awareness Module

This module will enhance your ability to communicate with people from different cultures. You will gain an in-depth knowledge of another student's culture and understand your own culture from an outsider's point of view.

What you will cover on the course:

  • You and one or two students from a different culture will meet on a weekly basis for one term.  During these meetings you will discuss the similarities and differences between your cultures and examine subjects such as culture shock. 
  • You will be asked to organise an activity that will introduce the other student to an aspect of your own culture. 

Learning Outcomes

  • Have in-depth knowledge of another student’s culture
  • Have an understanding of their own culture from an outsider’s point of view
  • Have the necessary level of cultural understanding to work and communicate with people from different cultures
  • Have the necessary level of cultural understanding to integrate someone from a different culture in your own social network
  • Be able to reflect on your experience of sharing your own culture and an understanding of an outsider’s perspective of  experiencing aspects of their own culture.

Assessment

  • A personal written log (50%)
  • Final informal interview/discussion with two assessors. (50%)

Credit Award

  • 10 Credits
