Applying for a student visa

The Tier 4 (Student) visa

  • The Points-Based System affects you if you are entering the UK in a long-stay category such as Tier 4 (Student).
  • It does not affect you if you are entering on a short-stay visa, such as a student visitor or a prospective student.
  • If you are coming to the UK as a student you will need a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) number from your chosen university and you will have to present the CAS with your student visa application.
  • For advice on how to apply for your visa, please visit the International Students Advisory Service (ISAS) page on visas and immigration
