Plan B Competition Winners

In March 2009, the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Centre held a fantastic competition open to all students within the University of Birmingham to write a full business plan or put ideas on a postcard.

The Plan-B Enterprise Competition offered a £1000 cash prize plus a half-day business strategy consultation and access to the EIC’s Incubator facilities for a year. As the competition was very close this year, the second prize, £500 cash and a two hour business plan surgery had to be divided amongst two equally great competitors.

We would like to congratulate Scott Barlow the winner of a £1000 cash prize, for the brilliant business plan, ‘Nomad Guides.’

Scott Barlow“Nomad Guides is a user-orientated service for the value-conscious traveller, from the Arctic to the Sahara. The guidebook includes only the content they require, fully customisable travel information including organizing travel from flights to cruises. The guides come with local maps, exchange rates, key phrases, weather forecasts, festivals and events taking place during your stay. The Nomad Guides also allow users to share their itineraries and allows people to connect with colleagues whilst travelling.”

We would also like to congratulate our two runners up, Rosanna Daly and Manveer Singh Rayit both winning £250 each.

Rosanna Daly : Lutyens Art Gallery and Workshop

“The business proposition was for Lutyens Art Gallery. The gallery would display local art and provide the service of art workshops for children and adults. Lutyens would only display the work of local artists which was the businesses main differential.”

Manveer Singh Rayit : Joberz.com

“Joberz.com is a concept intended to revolutionise the recruitment market. As a student, the whole process of applying for jobs became repetitive and consumed too much of my time. Joberz.com would give students & jobseekers a central platform to manage their career and professional profile. Employers would use the site to search for potential candidates and screen them via video profiling saving both time and HR spend”

The second part of the competition, ‘ideas on a postcard’ offered £100 cash prizes, and were awarded to Marcus Rowntree, Phillip Collins and Denis Denisenko.

For those who did not get a chance to enter this year, do not worry this is an annual competition so get your thinking caps on for Plan-B competition 2010 which will be run in the spring term.
