Enterprise at Birmingham

Birmingham is a very enterprising university. Not only is there a strong community of students and staff engaged in enterprise, but we also work closely with alumni who have gone on to start their own businesses and social enterprises, or who have entrepreneurial roles in other organisations. Businesspeople and entrepreneurs from the city and the region also engage with us as mentors, trainers, advisors, role-models, speakers and investors.

EI specialises in working with registered students to grow their entrepreneurial mindsets and competences. There are many other parts of the University that are part of the wider entrepreneurial culture and where  you can be involved.

When you see this symbol in any of the following pages, it indicates activities that are directly led by the Entrepreneurship and Innovation team.

Undergraduate and taught masters students
As an undergraduate, you have the opportunity to learn about enterprise and entrepreneurship whether for your own interest, in order to become more employable, or with a view to starting your own business. There are several student groups and societies just for you. We can also help with funding and mentoring to get your enterprise off the ground.

Doctoral researchers
Postgraduate researchers can take advantage of some specialised programmes and some may be in a position to apply their research in a commercial or social-enterprise context.

Staff
University staff are encouraged to engage in knowledge transfer and there are a number of ways in which this is supported. Academics may also want to know how they could embed enterprise in the curriculum or learn more about enterprise themselves.

Alumni
Alumni can benefit from remaining part of the University community, and are also vital to the work of Entrepreneurship and Innovation. Find out how you can play your part in making Birmingham one of the most entrepreneurial universities in the UK.

External
If you are not already a member of the University community, there are many ways in which you can connect with us. We offer business start-up support to graduates (of any university) in the City and the University has many ways in which it works with businesses, large and small. Entrepreneurial individuals, too, are part of the enterprising lifeblood of our work.
