Who can use our services?

The Careers & Employability Centre offers services and facilities to all students. To find out what is specifically available to you use the links below to jump to the appropriate information.

Current students

Current students at the University can utilise all our services including:

  • Full access to information and vacancies on our website.
  • Use of information resources and internet access (for careers-related searching) in our information room.
  • International students can find specific international resources in our information room, as well as access to Going Global, a website for country-specific career information. We also recommend international students use the International Students Advisory Service (ISAS) and www.prospects.ac.uk for information about working outside the UK.
  • Attendance at events and workshops; this includes events specifically targeted at postgraduates and international students.
  • Advice and guidance via the internet (e-guidance) and in person at the Advice desk and CV clinic.
  • Accessible system for feedback and complaints.

Students with disabilities

Students with disabilities at the University can utilise all our services including:

  • Wheelchair accessible shelf height for resources within our information room.
  • Accessible events and workshops, if you require a particular adjustment eg large print please email careers-centre@bham.ac.uk before the event.
  • Resources that can be borrowed and used with assistive technology booths in the main library.
  • Transaction aids kit for blind or visually impaired people.
  • Portable individual induction loops for use at reception or for one to one discussions.
  • Accessible system for feedback and complaints.

Graduates within the last year

If you have graduated from the University in the past year you can utilise all our services including:

  • Full access to information and vacancies on our website.
  • Use of information resources and internet access (for careers-related searching) in our information room.
  • Attendance at events and workshops.
  • Advice and guidance via the internet (e-guidance) and in person at the Advice desk and CV clinic.

If you are a recent graduate you are invited to take part in the Graduate Destinations survey which provides us with information on your current work or study which aids current students at the University. For further information on what is involved and how to take part, visit us or call Reception on 0121 414 6120.

Graduates of more than one year from the University of Birmingham or no more than three years from any university in the UK

If you have graduated over a year ago from the University you can access the following services only:

  • Information Room (for reference only)
  • Website
  • Events - if there is space on the day

Please note this does not include graduates from the following institutions:

  • Aston University
  • Birmingham City University
  • Newman University
  • University College Birmingham
  • Wolverhampton University
