Summary of statistics

Geographers develop a wide range of skills which attract future employers. These include fieldwork; scientific laboratory techniques; producing maps and diagrams; using social survey and interpretative methods; collecting and analysing information and recognising the moral and ethical issues involved in debates and enquiries. These are in addition to more general transferable skills such as communication, presentation skills, flexibility and strong IT skills.

Environmental Scientists likewise develop a variety of skills attractive to employers.  As well as practical skills gained in the laboratory and the field, their transferable skills include research techniques, data analysis and effective written and oral communication.

Many graduates entered subject related employment in areas such as planning, surveying and environmental consultancy. Graduates also opted for a wide range of other careers including accountancy and finance, retail, recruitment and marketing.
