The DLHE survey is conducted 6 months after graduation.
In addition to the academic knowledge gained through your course you’ll have developed transferable skills that are useful in many occupations. These include researching, judging and evaluating complex information; and making reasoned arguments, both orally, in tutorials and presentations, and in written work.
Sociology and Media Culture and Society graduates are attracted to careers in both public and private sectors. In 2007, those in employment reported jobs in a wide range of sectors, from media to banking, insurance, health services, event management organisations, transport, legal services, prison service and housing. Some take jobs they consider to be temporary in order to give themselves time to consider their career choices and plan for the future, as some of these careers (such as journalism, teaching or social work) require further professional training or building a portfolio of relevant work experience. Others opt to continue with further study, following courses directly relevant to their degree, whilst others follow vocational courses such as teacher training, law conversion, social work and marketing.
