Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education report, 2007

The DLHE survey is conducted 6 months after graduation.

Education

Summary of statistics

Graduates from the Humanities courses choose to work in variety of education roles in schools and administrative roles in public and private sector organisations. Work in retail, sales and administration are also popular options. Some apply for professional postgraduate courses such as teacher training.

Most Applied Golf Management graduates look towards employment in the golf industry, mostly as assistant professionals. The course provides opportunities for networking in the industry, developing entrepreneurial skills and the ability to build relationships which is crucial to success.

Sport, PE and Community Studies graduates are attracted to careers in education such as teaching, community and youth work or other public sector occupations such as social work, police, housing and probation. New opportunities in partnership enterprises within sport, leisure, education and community schemes appeal.

Some graduates from all courses consider work in the private sector such as retail, finance or marketing. Others take jobs they consider to be temporary in order to give themselves time to consider their career choices and plan for the future, as some of these careers (such as teaching or social work) require further professional training or building a portfolio of relevant work experience.
